Syran's Naval College is famous for its non-magical tutelage of the Sentanos Navy, and numbers many citizens of Tortun amongst its students. It also houses a Wizardry School, however, with a small but regular intake of apprentices. These are mostly from the local Church of The Waters, but occasional scholarships are granted to gifted applicants from other churches in the city. Graduates tend to have a more practical bent than many other adepts; they are treasured by the city's merchant marine, and regarded as a key strategic element by the Navy.
The summoning and command of undines is an important part of their training, most commonly using a unique magical artifact called The Summoning Font. This great stone vessel, situated in a private chapel at the Academy was created by the school's founder, Evanard Reedwalker, and acts as a grimoire, providing the spells listed below. The Font is far from portable and the school's adepts have not found a way to create their own copies of it, but Evanard did write a (non-magical) book that describes how to cast and create talismans for the individual spells. The school's two other grimoires (Secrets of the Current and Secrets of the Deeps), which were also created by Reedwalker, are examples of misapplied worship (see Heroquest p110), drawing upon the powers of the river god Doskior and the lake goddess Felstra respectively. See Disadvantages below for more information.

As noted above, two of the school's grimoires derive their magic via misapplied worship of two local water deities. This means that the associated spells are innefective (or at least severely diminished in effect) when the caster is not in proximity of either the Doskior River or Lake Felster. In addition, the Use Grimoire and individual spell abilities associated with these works cannot benefit from the effects of concentration. Members of the academy may also suffer handicaps when travelling to the Other Side via the associated 'false nodes'.
The founder's node, Evanard's Eddy, appears as a small coracle floating peacefully along on a wide river. The nodes associated with the two misapplied worship grimoires are markedly different, appearing as small regions of calm surrounded by a vast maelstrom of swirling waters.
